Greater Columbus Arts Council

Since 1973, the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) has been integral in fostering an artistic, expressive culture in its city. GCAC enjoys a strong reputation among its constituents and those it serves, artists and arts organizations, in large part because of its healthy financial stewardship. However, the Council suffered from brand confusion as well as foggy messaging; people didn’t know who GCAC was, what it did, or why it did it.

Our solution was to root the brand in a single organizing principle and to build a purpose-driven identity system with high utility. Ultimately, we brought clarity to the brand architecture, developed cohesive visual and verbal language, and helped to align organizational operations and initiatives.

The new GCAC brand is rooted in a single, organizing principle: that artistic expression occupies the moral domain; that art is central to human life. GCAC promises to fight for artists and arts organizations, safeguarding and facilitating artistic expression.
